Rhonda Russell, Principal
From the Principal.....
Welcome to the new year at Jena Junior High School! Although there will be many changes in education this year, our faculty and staff are committed to meeting the challenges ahead. Our school offers many academic, extra-curricular, and athletic programs; as well as opportunities for community service.
I want to take this time to wish our students, faculty, and staff a successful year. I also want to encourage our parents and the community to get involved with our school. We have several projects in the works at JJHS, and we could use your help.
Again, welcome to all of our students and we hope you have a terrific school year! Our door is always open, so feel free to contact us with any questions or concerns.
Rhonda Russell, Principal
Jena Junior High School was built in 1959 to house the 7th and 8th grades. Additions and alterations were made in 1981, and again in 2010. In 2010, the sixth grade was moved to the school. The first principal was Mr. Milton Hudnall. Subsequent principals were Clayton Taylor, Jean Andrews, Cliff Wishum, Kip Wall, David Roark, Sylvia Norris, Gawan Burgess, and June Fowler. The current principal is Rhonda Russell.
Jena Junior High's mascot is the Giant, and school colors are black and gold. The school's current enrollment is 320 students in the 6th, 7th, and 8th grades.

Great things happen here!
JJHS is off to a great start this school year! Stay tuned for updates and notices about the exciting things that are taking place around campus! One of our newest features is the 6th grade math class - Mr. Barker's class is a fully integrated digital classroom, with students attacking critical math concepts and applications in a variety of methods and platforms designed to foster success in this technology-rich society. Kudos to Mr. Barker and Mrs. Russell for seeking ways to enrich learning above and beyond!
From our School Based Health Center:
For your child to be seen in the health center, we must have a completed and signed consent form with a copy of your insurance cards.
If your child is to be given prescription medicine at school, please remember you must have a written doctor's order and meet with Tammy Guin, LaSalle Parish School Board Nurse RN, to sign the medicine in. Also, if your child has a change in dosage or in medicine, please contact the health center RN to inform of change. No child may bring medication, including over the counter medications, to school. Parents must bring the medication to sign it in.
If your health insurance changes during the school year, please call the health center and supply a copy of the new insurance card.
If you have any questions, please call the health center at (318) 992-2732.
